12 Poems is an interactive flash site by MMD-Odense student Stine Albertsen
I’ve always thought that it is important to make your own projects alongside your education. In that way your portfolio will automatically increase, while you go in depth on specific topics. And then it’s just great to learn something new while creating an an interactive experience.
So after enjoying the concert with Ave on Spot Festival 2009 where they played with Odense Symphony Orchestra and Herning Boys Choir, I took contact to the band from Funen, and offered my help with their on-line material. It has since developed into a greater cooperation and friendship, and I have the last 2 years working as a multimedia designer for Ave.
Apart from press photos and other visual material, the majority of my work for Ave has concentrated on a promotional website for their album release in October 2010.
The whole concept behind 12poems.com came when I listened to the music of Ave. The stories I got from listening, was written down, I found some of my old pictures which was cut and pasted in before they were put together again in Photoshop. It actually ended up with every single item on the website were photographed separately and then put together in order to create the house. Most of the effects that have been photographed are things I’ve found in Ave’s rehearsal room.
I was always sure that the website should be very visually and be an interactive site where users had to get involved to find their way through the universe.
Since I never really had created a flash website before, I started out by looking for a flash developer to assist me in this project. And get my design to be interactive and lively. But since I could not find anyone who had the time or courage to get involved in the project, I chose to take an on-line course in flash coding. And in that way I got the design to work as a website. It took time and was incredibly hard to work alone with everything myself. But after launching the site, and receiving all the good PR that has been on the project, I’m very proud and happy with the outcome.
My flash teacher at MMD, Michael Koch has been a fantastic support and help when the coding went wrong and I had to write, call or met up at his office with all my many questions. And therefore a big thanks for your help, Miko!
It has been an amazing learning experience and insanely fun to be allowed to create the universe for the album “12 Poems And Sing Me The Silence I Once Used To Know”.
But it does not end at 12poems.com. There is something new under its way and in the end of 2011, and start of 2012, there will be something new from our side. Until then, you can see the universe at www.12poems.com and follow my work at www.stinealbertsen.dk
